July 2026: It’s Summer Time

Welcome to July! Summer has arrived, bringing warm weather, renewed energy, and plenty of activity around Mimico Baptist Church.

As we begin the season, we are looking forward to a special combined (of our 8:30 and 10:30 gatherings) service that brings together baptism and communion – a wonderful reminder of the unity we share in Christ.

Throughout the summer, our building will also be bustling with children from Toronto Kids camps, summer students working with our Friday Night Kids and Sunday mornings as well as the ongoing work in developing our Third Space vision.

At the same time, we are entering a season of intentional discernment, learning from the early church that before they acted and planned, they prayed. As we seek God’s guidance together, we invite you to join us in prayer for the many ministries, opportunities, and relationships that will be shaped in the months ahead.

Welcome to summertime at Mimico Baptist Church—there is much to celebrate, much to pray for, and much to anticipate.

Board Update – June 2026

Finance

  • We began June with a deficit of $30,603.
  • Our expenses have remained the same, but our income has decreased.
  • Membership at the Church Life Meeting on June 14 approved the heat pump installation expense of up to $40,000.

Property

  • Lawn care: We are grateful to Peter Casey who has volunteered to mow the lawn, and we need additional help in maintaining the flower beds. A few volunteers would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Kevin (property@mimicobaptist.ca) if you would like to help.
  • Toronto Kidz is returning for the duration of the summer.
  • Building assessment has been completed – our church is in good condition. The roof will be good for another 2–3 years.
  • Air conditioning / heat pump: It was voted on at our June 14 Church Life Meeting to proceed with the installation of a 4-unit Mitsubishi heat pump system to be installed by Laird & Son.
  • Building Manager: Kevin advised that his 3-year term as Building Manager will conclude June 2027.

Mandarin Ministry

  • Pastor Linying has officially resigned from her position due to health issues.
  • In a special Board Meeting June 9th the following decision was made:
    • Based on our current financial situation and the availability of Peter, it was decided at this time not to hire a new person in this position.
    • The core group will take on the major responsibility and Peter will serve as Ministry Team Lead under Pastor David’s supervision and will participate in the Pastoral Team Summit.
    • This is the solution currently and if anyone has questions or ideas, they are encouraged to reach out to the Board.

Canada Summer Jobs

  • Four students have been hired.
  • Their focus areas:
    • Kids / Youth / Intergenerational ministry (Fridays & Sundays)
    • Developing third-space ministry (café, front lawn)
    • Do data research in our community so we can target appropriately with a vision and purpose.
