October gives us many reasons to thank Godl; here are a few of them.
We are grateful that Peter Qi is now our Volunteer Mandarin Pastor. We praise God for Peter’s willingness to lead alongside our pastoral staff, committed to helping people know Jesus and grow in following Him.
This month is particularly special as our 8:30 am Mandarin-speaking congregation celebrates 10 years of God’s faithfulness. For a decade, God has used this ministry to reach Mandarin-speaking friends in Mimico and beyond, helping many discover Jesus and find a church family.
We’ll celebrate this milestone throughout the weekend of October 16-18, culminating in a special combined worship service on Sunday, October 18, at 10:30 am. We invite our entire church family to join us. Translation will be available through our church translation app (from Mandarin to English), making it possible for everyone to participate in this meaningful occasion.
October will also include opportunities to grow together through our combined service on October 4, ongoing Bible studies Wednesdays and Fridays, ESL classes, Friday Night Kids, Youth Group and other ministries that continue to strengthen our church community. Later in the month, we’ll learn more about our Ministry Teams and how each of us can serve, and we’ll welcome our neighbours through a special community event on October 31.
As we look ahead, I’m (Alvin) reminded that every ministry, every conversation, and every opportunity to serve is evidence of God’s faithfulness. Thank you for being part of what God is doing at Mimico Baptist Church. Let’s continue praying for one another, serving together, and trusting God with all that lies ahead.
Board Update
Finance
- We began September with a deficit of -$21,471.
- A memorial gift of $51,000 was received in memory of John Wiseman.
- $36,500 was spent on the air conditioning installment project.
- A donation of $2,000 was received toward the arborist services and $885 was received in donations at the Youth concert.
- Toronto Kidz rental generated approximately $10,400 in income.
Property
- Eavestrough repairs at the parsonage appear to have resolved basement water issues.
- Air conditioning and heat pump installation was completed and has been operating successfully since August.
- Summer property maintenance, including lawn care and garden improvements were done. Thank you, Peter Casey and Brigitte Bommer, for your care and dedication.
- Toronto Kids summer rental program concluded successfully.
- Snow removal contract for winter 2026-2027 has been signed.
- Additional repairs are planned for the Hillside eavestrough and damaged basement wall.
Mandarin Ministry
- Eleven participants attended the Mandarin discipleship camp at Redeemer University.
- A summer BBQ and youth concert were held successfully. The youth concert raised $885 for youth ministry.
- The Mandarin congregation is preparing to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Mandarin Service, including a combined service on October 18, 2026.
