These verses have been used to manipulate and guilt people into greater giving to their church (not to say that’s a bad thing) and to promise fabulous blessing when they do (the verses sort of promise this). Neither of these get to the text’s core meaning: we are to obey God because he constantly welcomes us with mercy and grace, and trust his provision for our needs when we return. He is waiting for us to return to him…with our whole hearts!
