I (David) am still reflecting and processing on what I heard at CBOQ’s Assembly. One of the seminar leaders spoke about understanding a churches operating culture and systems as a means for planning and growth. I was really interested in this; I totally missed the point. The leader spent 2/3 of her time reminding us that unless we have a healthy and growing personal life abiding in and relating to Jesus, all our other efforts are powerless. 

I’ve been really focused on determining and, yes spiritually discerning, where Mimico Baptist goes from here: who are our communities we need to be focusing on, what should our church structure and services be for maximum impact?

I realized that those are secondary points; the primary point we as leaders and as church people, is how do we go from here. We pray, we listen, we discern, we learn from biblical leaders, we pray (again) and we do all this in community.  We will discern where we go and what we do, but only after — and only because — we pray and listen to God’s spirit.
