A couple months ago, Pastor Alvin and I began a conversation about prayerfully discerning what “A community of Christ sharing Christ with our communities” could mean for the next number of months and years. We quickly agreed that this will take a lot of prayer and listening.
A few weeks ago there was an envelope from Canadian Baptist Ministries in the office containing a few booklets called Season of Prayer.
And, as if the Trinity was trying to get my attention, a third prompt to pray: I registered for CBOQ’s Assembly. This year’s theme: “And Then They Prayed.” Here was their rationale: “As we looked to Assembly this year, we felt that more than a theme or a topic we needed a posture. We needed to come before God together, to pray and seek God’s leading for this time and place in our CBOQ family, our provinces and our world. We need to pray.”
As you might remember, we prayed during some of our 10:30 services last May.
And we will continue to pray through the days, weeks and even months ahead. With our June activities and opportunities (see below), we will continue to pause and pray so we might hear God’s words as we continue to move forward.

Board Update – May 2026
Finance
- We began May with a deficit.
- Our expenses are inline, but our income has decreased. (We will be sharing some reasons for that decrease at our next Church Life Meeting.)
Property
- Church structure has been inspected and the building is in good shape.
- Roofing assessment is underway and third-party report is pending.
- Failing sump pump has been replaced.
- Baptistry – ongoing difficulty in securing a contractor.
- Heat pump
- Two quotes have been received for consideration and evaluation
- Funds donated towards heat pump since 2025: $10,500
- Lawn care
- We are grateful to Peter who has volunteered to mow the lawn.
- We need additional help in maintaining the flower beds. Our church has a special presence on the corner and a well cared for property blesses the neighbourhood. A few volunteers would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Kevin (property@mimicobaptist.ca or (647) 688-0246) if you would like to help.
Mandarin Ministry
- April 12: Began a new sermon series from Philippians – four videos have been uploaded to YouTube.
Upcoming Events
- June 4–6: CBOQ Assembly Delegates @ Brock University
- Cindy and Pastor David will be our delegates
- We are pleased to announce that Luke will be representing MBC as our Young Adult Delegate.
- June 14: Church Life Meeting
Making Our Outdoor Space Inviting
For those of you who like making outdoor spaces inviting (you don’t need to be an expert), we invite you to share your time and skills in keeping our space beautiful (e.g. yard clean-up, caring for our summer garden bed, etc.).
Contact Kevin at property@mimicobaptist.ca to share what you can contribute to “beautifying” our space.
