Sharing God’s Stories (August 31, 2025)

It is good to share stories of God’s work. We hopefully take notice to see what He’s done, and reminds us to pay attention especially in those moments when He’s working subtly and powerfully.

We share our God-stories from this past summer.

Stories of Redemption: Reflections from Psalm 107

This past Sunday at Mimico Baptist Church, we gathered not just to worship, but to share. Inspired by Psalm 107:1–2, we were reminded to “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out!” And speak out we did—through testimonies, reflections, and stories of God’s faithfulness in our lives and community. (Note: not all stories shared during the service were recorded and/or allowed to be distributed publicly.)

A Psalm of Praise and Purpose

Psalm 107 outlines four groups of people who cry out to God in their trouble (“Lord help” v6, 13, 19, 28), and each time, He responds. Their stories end with a call: “Let them praise the Lord for His great love and for the wonderful things He has done.” (v8, 15, 21, 31) This became our premise—for us to praise the Lord for His great love and for the wonderful things He has done this past summer.

Jan’s Story: From Discouragement to Deliverance

Jan opened her heart about a season of what may have felt like discouragement. Despite decades of faith, for several months, unanswered prayers for her daughter’s job and a friend’s spiritual journey left her feeling unheard. But in the midst of doubt, she recognized the voice of the enemy whispering, “Why bother?” She resisted, choosing instead to persist in prayer. And God responded—her daughter Laura received a job offer from a company that had previously turned her down. It was a perfect fit, a clear answer to prayer. Her friend is still willing to consider her spiritual journey in the midst of some obstacles. Jan’s story reminded us that God’s timing is always best, and faithfulness in prayer is never wasted.

Sharon’s Story: A Church Transformed

Sharon shared how a group of volunteers came together to reclaim and repurpose neglected spaces in the church. With the entranceway, the back of the sanctuary (formerly known as the library), the new staff office (formerly the pastor’s office) and the back office, each room was thoughtfully purged, organized, and redesigned to be functional and welcoming. The transformation was not just physical—it was spiritual. It was a testament to God working through community, generosity, and vision.

David’s Story: Creating Sacred Space

Pastor David introduced the concept of “third space”—a neutral, communal place where people gather, connect, and grow. Drawing inspiration from sociology and Scripture, he envisioned the former library becoming the “Third Space Café.” This would be a place for small groups, casual conversations, and spiritual reflection. Whether through micro-groups, scripture cards, or QR codes with conversation starters, the goal is to cultivate a sacred space where God’s presence is felt in everyday moments. (More details about this space to be shared in the coming weeks.)

Alvin’s Story: Grace in the Midst of Grief

Alvin shared how the passing of his father in July disrupted his summer plans and left him feeling scattered. Yet in the chaos, God gently redirected his focus. Through surrender and trust, Alvin experienced grace and provision. His story was a powerful reminder that even when life doesn’t go as planned, God is still at work—quietly, faithfully, and lovingly.

Looking Ahead: A Season of Growth

As we move into the fall, Mimico Baptist is preparing for new beginnings:

  • A 10:30 AM worship space designed to be a meaningful experience for any age.
  • A newly redesigned youth group room.
  • A sermon series this September exploring ministry teams and their role in serving both church and community.
  • Pastor David’s upcoming ordination examining council.

These initiatives reflect our desire to continue growing, serving, and sharing what God is doing among us.

A Call to Testify

We closed with a collective declaration of faith, echoing Psalm 107:43. In every language and every heart, we proclaimed the enduring love of God. And as we look to the future, we remain committed to sharing our stories—both the grand and the subtle—as testimonies of God’s faithful love.
